Ginsukyan-Thraxian enmity
Ginsukyan-Thraxian enmity (Ginsukyan: tanoha-ta, Tanohaita, Thraxian: Thrax-ginsukische Erbfeindschaft) is the idea of unavoidably and mutually hostile relations and revanchism between the Ginsukyans and the Thraxians. The idea arose right after the establishment of the Gurinary of Turiko, and persists to the modern times. It has guided the complex foreign relations between the two peoples and their countries, and is often described as one of the longest-running rivalries in the world.
Etymology[edit | edit source]
In Ginsukyan, the normal word for a "rivalry" is sunha-ta, Sunhaita, but when Ginsukyans refer to the rivalry with the Thraxians, the word Tanohaita is used much more frequently. The term is first attested in a session of the Gurin in 400 by a member of the Gurin, Chihata Kiyuno, who stated:
And what I am saying is, we should react with fire. The moment that the Turiko people united, they threatened us, and now, after being unable to achieve their goals, they have formed an alliance, the Concord, to surround us, so that we lose the war. Everytime we offer to amend this Tanohaita, they reject us!
In the Ginsukyan language, there are two terms for hate. The more commonly used Sun, and the less commonly used, but much stronger, Tano. Kiyuno believed that the rivalry that was developing was one that would be much stronger than once thought.
