The company was founded by former Empherian [[Position of Prime Minister in the High Kingdoms|Prime Minister]], [[Edgard Merigold]], in the later years of his life in 2355. The company was named after himself, and the Merigold Street that he helped create during his premiership. He hired one of his retired friends, Peter Tyworth, to serve as head of the company. The first store was opened on 185 Merigold Street, Rosetta, Wynnoa on 8 November 2356. The company expanded to eight stores within Wynnoa by the time of Merigold's retirement in 2362. Maurice Merigold, Edgard's son, took over from his father in late 2362 and switched strategies and opened eleven new stores throughout the country.
