Naming conventions[edit | edit source]

The main character is part of the House of Gevrede, coming from the Dutch "geen vrede" meaning "no peace" in English. The main character goes by many names, but was born as Crathe Gevrede. The name Crathe comes from Crates of Thebes, a Cynicism ancient Greek philosopher who renounced his wealth and fortune for a simple life, which speaks to the story of the main character. On Oikia, Crathe went by an Empheri language name, Charlie. This name was chosen because it is unisex and carries a similar sound to Crathe. In his male incarnations, he may sometimes rarely be called Charles, and in his female regenerations Charlotte. The name Charles is germanic and comes from "free man" alluding to the same principles as his native name. The name origin being germanic against all native names being ancient greek is also another opposition. The only two people in the Gevrede close family whose names begin with 'c' are Crathe and their father Callias. Prior to being named Charlie, common names proposed were Jamie, or Georgie (coming from Gorgias, the tutor of Antisthenes, a cynic philosopher). The philosopher Antisthenes was also used as a base for Crathe's best friend [[Stenes|Stenes Antis]].

The family members also have names derived from ancient Greek. Crathe has two younger brothers. The elder one is Ajax Gevrede not named after anybody in particular being quite unique, and the younger one is Aristox Gevrede named after Aristoxenus. Their mother is named Anaxia Gevrede, after Anaximander, an ancient Greek philosopher who was a proponent in exploration and learning the universe. Their father is named Callias Gevrede, after Callias III, an extravagant Greek king who was very much in the establishment. The grandfather of Crathe is Wolgemut Gevrede, the only other Germanic name, named after an illustrator of the Nuremburg Chronicle.

The home planet of the main character is known as Arkaval. Edriege is also from this planet. The High Council of Arkaval is the ruling government of the planet.

He has a new technology, a component used to create an oracle – Arkavallian technology. Crathe investigates and comes into contact with King Cecil's colony base and is arrested. Believing the King had something to do with the plants on Oikia, Crathe is very suspicious of him. The villainous Arkavallian Edriege, while everyone is distracted, manages to steal the component and flees, setting off all kinds of alarms. In the panic, Crathe also escapes capture and is followed by Princess Isabella. She is tired of the noble grandeur and seeks a more adventurous life.
