The Alaxian Melody Festival (Exteras: alaxian melody festival), abbreviated to AMF, and known as the Oikia Festival of Songs (Ahitereiran: oikia festival of songs) is an international song-writing and performing competition organised annually by the High Kingdoms Broadcasting Company (HKBC)—specifically the international division, in collaboration with the International Broadcasting Agency (IBA). The contest features participants representing nations from across the globe. Each participating country submits an original song to be performed on live television and radio, transmitted to national broadcasters via the IBA's networks, with competing countries then casting votes for the other countries' songs to determine a winner.

Following the creation of the High Kingdoms Broadcasting Company in 2448, the organisation wanted to take advantage of the booming music industry while celebrating a diverse music scene across all of the newly unified High Kingdoms. To do this, they organised a song contest beginning in 2451 which would contain all five nations, alongside Grensalbourg, to submit songs for a semi-regular programme. The list of participating countries has changed drastically throughout the years with the list expanding past the originals into West Alaxia, and the rest of the world beyond. The programme became annual in the 2460s to save cost and build up suspense as more countries joined.

Each participating broadcaster sends one original song of four minutes duration or less to be performed live by a singer or group of up to eight people aged 16 or older. All species were allowed to compete, and in any language. Voting systems changed as the format change, but generally a set of points is given to their favourite songs, based on popular public opinion and a group of music professionals. The song receiving the most points would be declared the winner. Other performances feature alongside the competition, including a specially-commissioned opening and interval act and guest performances by musicians and other personalities, to help showcase the culture of music and put on a show.

Traditionally, the event is held in the country which won the preceding years' event which provides an opportunity to promote the host country and city as a tourist destination and promote more niche and less competitive musical genres. Earlier editions, when the contest was much more locally based and funded solely by HKBC, the event would be held in the High Kingdoms of Alaxia regardless of who won the event - although highlighting different cities. Thousands of spectators attend each year, and journalists are present to cover all aspects of the contest, including rehearsals in venue, press conferences with the competing acts, and other related events and performances in the host city.
