Angelica

Angelica is an Alaxian science fiction television and film franchise having aired since 2452. Although dubbed in Empherian, the series was one of the first properties produced by ENTV to be recorded in Exteras first. The television show, which ran from 2452 until it's cancellation in 2465, featured around the character of Angelica - a suspected alien and spy for the White Rose Organisation works with futuristic technology to explore and put down plots from across the world, universe and time - and her companions and friends. Later film series moved away from these plots, instead being feature film epics with recurring major recognisable villains who were more human, creative and superhero-esque. Major villains from the series include her arch-nemesis Mortus; an electrifying lizard-like human mutant named Toxa and his Toxette minions; the mind meddling god of Mestelek; the cybernetic weird Spider girl Interweb and her cronies, the Arachnoids; her evil clone of Demonica; and robotic but humanoid creatures known as Robocta.

The main actor playing Angelica has been played by 5 different people over 60 years. Krystal May played the first iteration, which ran over six seasons and a variety of special episodes between 2452 and 2462. She quit after ten years and 53 serialised stories, but HKBC executives wanted to reboot the series - this time under Louisa Thompson. While she only played the character in 5 television serials in 2465, she oversaw the shift to movies - six of which released throughout 2468 and 2477. Isabella Watson played the next iteration over three films and a spin-off movie in the time of 2484-2492. After a ten year break, the franchise returned to screens with Anna Martin playing Angelica, for just four films between 2502 and 2509. The current actor is Sabrina Miller, having played the character since 2513 with three released films as of 2517, with two more planned to be released in the future.

It has been the subject of many parodies and references in other pop culture. It has spawned numerous spin-offs such as video games, comic books, novels and audio dramas, etc. It has been translated into many other languages such as Azyeri, Ceironian, Sutonese, Hveden, etc.

Krystal May's Angelica

Because of the serialised nature of the series, episodes will be divided into story number and episode number. An episode is defined as a full length run time that airs independently. A story is the overarching story which may or may not be made up of multiple episodes.

Season 1 (2452)

HKBC ordered the production of sixteen episodes to be made and aired weekly starting in March 2452. These sixteen episodes would be divided to have 4 stories, each with 4 episodes. Each individual episode had an average runtime of 25 minutes. The series saw the debut of Krystal May as Angelica, with the companions of Lewis Hurt (played by Matthew Sarney) and Abigail Fraser (played by Kristina Marks)

Season 2 (2452-2453)

Following the relative success of the first season, HKBC ordered a second season with double the episode count. This allowed series executive Steven Wright to introduce serials with more episodes to create a more larger than life plot. Each individual episode had an average runtime of 25 minutes. Krystal May, Matthew Sarney, and Abigail Fraser all reprised their roles. This season saw the dropping of individual episode names.

Season 3 (2454)

Following a huge increase in viewership and cult following after the second season, HKBC was confident in the production. It allocated it 4 more episodes, bumping it up to 36 total. More writers were hired and each serial was written by a different writer. Each individual episode had an average runtime of 25 minutes. Krystal May, Matthew Sarney, and Abigail Fraser all reprised their roles, alongside new star Lydia Hare as Marnie Peters.

Season 6 (2457-2458)

HKBC renewed the show for a sixth season in October 2456. Each individual episode had an average runtime of 25 minutes. Krystal May and Abigail Fraser reprised their roles. This was set to be the final series produced of Angelica, as Krystal May (the lead) intended to lead. As such, the show was given an extra 8 episodes to mark it's final season. The first six episodes aired consecutively in 2457, with the seventh episode airing over the national holiday period. The eighth, ninth and tenth episodes aired in early 2458. Season 6 Specials (2458-2462)

HKBC commissioned five special serials to air throughout the years, airing in the season of the national day. The final special would be a ten year anniversary, released on 3 March 2462. They would be filmed in advance prior to convention and would feature Krystal May with famous actors of the time as guest stars. Each individual episode had an average runtime of 30 minutes, making them longer than usual. These would be the final Angelica serials featuring Krystal May's Angelica as the main star. While the first serial would air traditionally, the second serial would have Part Three and Part Four air consecutive on one night, with the fifth and sixth parts airing the same way the following night. The third special would have three parts air consecutively on one night, with the final three on another. The fourth and fifth specials would have all six parts air on one night back to back.

Louisa Thompson's Angelica

Season 7 (2465)

HKBC put the series on hold after the end of the Series 6 specials and the departure of the key lead. However, higher ups believed that the show could be continued with a new take on the character of Angelica. Seasoned actor Louisa Thompson took over the role. HKBC therefore recommissioned the show with just 20 episodes for a 7th season. Steven Wright came back as executive producer but wrote no episodes. Amira Lawrence and Myles Grey were cast as her companions, Emmelie and Peter. The series was marred with below average expectations for viewing figures, leading to doubt over future seasons.

Wright's Angelica film series (2468-2471)

Following poor ratings of Season 7, HKBC decided to hand control of 3 feature films to Steven Wright to debut in theatres. These films would be co-produced by independent film company Rhommel Studios who would secure a lot funding and profits. Louisa Thompson, who starred in the reboot in Season 7, would return as the main actress. Amira Lawrence and Myles Grey returned as her companions in all three films, with new actors Harry Russell and Elena Cunningham joining the main cast roster. The films saw huge success and prompted a later worldwide release and HKBC to gain confidence in the brand. This would be Wright's last contributions to the property.

Droswell's Angelica film series (2474-2477)

HKBC commissioned a further three films to produced under Louisa Thompson. The first title would be a spin-off of the series to be produced concurrently with a 4th Angelica film. The third title would act as a combination of both stories, being titled as the 5th Angelica film. Amira Lawrence, Myles Grey, Harry Russell and Elena Cunningham all returned alongside new main actors: Rory Mitchell, James Scott, and Isabella Wallace. Critics say the stories were too complicated with many characters, but the series did relatively well. Many attributed the failure of the spin-off film to poor marketing and lack of relevance to the main story. Thompson announced in late 2477 that these films would be her last in the role. Rhommel Studios would once again produce the films alongside HKBC and new company DheviS Inc. Early plans indicated that Steven Wright was to return to help but died of a brain haemorrhage in early 2473 before he started any work.

Isabella Watson's Angelica

Armstrong's Angelica film series (2484-2488)

HKBC decided on a complete revamp of the series for the next production. Unlike any other season or film, this series would start with a complete reintroduction of the character and a brand new canon - whereas the previous 7 seasons and 6 films were set in the same universe. Louisa Thompson's contract had expired and so Isabella Watson was cast as the third Angelica iteration. No previous co-stars returned, with new actors such as Dominik Porter, Callum Adams, and Mary Wells starring. Rhommel Studios would again produce independently, but no creative staff (directors or screenwriters) would return from the previous era giving it a brand new feel. Tom Armstrong directed and executively produced all three films.

HKBC originally commissioned three films during the 2479 meeting to discuss the future of the property. They started casting and pre-production in late 2481 and filming began in 2482 for the first film. Contracts were settled for five films - but HKBC secretly planned to end it as a trilogy.

Agent Angelica - The Evil of Mortus (2484)

The film went into an early rebrand from "Angelica" to "Agent Angelica" to distinguish it further from the previous productions. The first film's plot featured the origins of the White Rose organisation, an introduction to Agent Angelica, and a small secret mission, the acquiring of three friends, and a final showdown with Angelica's arch-nemesis, Mortus. This nemesis had only been established prior in the 2475 film, Angelica IV - The Rise of Mortus, however this film would reintroduce the villain with a slightly different backstory and motive.

Agent Angelica - The Toxa Terror (2486)

The second film began pre-production in early 2484, before the showing of the first film. All actors from the previous film returned for a sequel that picked right off from the end of the first movie. Instead of bringing back a villain from an older film, the sequel would introduce new villain - Toxa. The film would also see heavy character development for the main characters. Recurring villain Robocta played a small part, playing as a fiddle for Toxa and serving as a plot device. The film would show the expansion of White Rose, an expanding romance, a heroic sacrifice and a twist.

Agent Angelica - The Marvel of Mestelek (2488)

The third film began pre-production in early 2486. It became evident early on that this would be the final film and that the studio would not pursue a fourth and fifth movies. Therefore, rewrites took place to condense the stories of the final movie, planned third movies, with character developments being condensed, and elements of the fourth film being thrown in. The plot of the film is said to be very complicated compared to the prior films with rushed conclusions and too many villains. Mestelek would make an appearance but their story wasn't going to be retold, rather a continuation of the fundamental lore setup in the Season 3 Episode 7 episode "Morals of Mestelery". Other villains such as the Galaktorites, the War Machines, and Khraster show up as well. Originally, Mestelek was to have a small part in the third movie, but his part in the story was blown up majorly for the final instalment. All major actors returned from the previous two films.

Armstrong's Katerina Kay spin-off film (2492)

Rhommel Studios and HKBC had agreed to cut the five movie series down to three officially in late 2486 which annoyed director Tom Armstrong. This was due to budget constraints and numerous issues with management. Following the movie's compromise of a story and subsequent release, the property was announced in 2490 to have no works in development. In early 2491, they secured funding for a further film in the Angelica series but Armstrong didn't want to pursue this due to having wrapped up his ideas in the third Agent Angelica film, and being burned out of the franchise. However, Armstrong decided to pen a spin-off instead.

Katerina Kay was a character in the old show's seventh season. The point of the spin-off was to introduce the character into the new canon and to create a new non-Angelica film with similar direction to the Agent Angelica movies. The movie did less than expected at the Box Office and a planned sequel named Katerina Kay 2 - Agent of Deceit was dropped from all plans.

Isabella Watson, Angelica's actor, expressed her support and willingness for another Angelica film and hoped she'd receive another trilogy like with Louisa Thompson (especially with her commercial success) but this was never delivered. Producing company, Rhommel Studios, was bought by Headlight Inc in November 2493 and subsequently dissolved. HKBC then withheld the rights.

Russell's Reboot film series (2502-2509)

Julie Russell contacted HKBC with an idea for a revival in 2500 but was dismissed. in early 2501, the new directing manager at HKBC and ENTV decided to reboot the series, among others, with a fresh appeal. The new films began filming in late 2501 and the first film was finished very quickly. Anna Martin was cast as Angelica in a complete reboot of the series. Minek Pictures and DheviS Inc would produce the film series.

Angelica (2502)

The first film, to be released on 21 December 2502, was to act as a 50th anniversary celebration of the series while rebooting it with very modern elements. A lot of the character and backstory was changed. Alongside Martin, her co-stars were cast with a variety of big name and upcoming stars: Christopher Hayes, Harris Simpson, Agnes Herrington, Alicia Bernes and Mila Rennes-Grey. There was some help from series veterans Amelia Droswell and Tom Armstrong, but completely new directors and screenwriters pushed forward majority of the production. The villain of the movie would be arch-nemesis Mortus brought into an updated light almost 20 years later with both practical and digital effects. The film was simply named Angelica and not given a subtitle to stop confusing with earlier films. Some hardcore fans may use the unused name, "Angelica and the Miracles of Mortus" to distinguish it from others in the franchise.

Angelica 2 (2504)

Due to the huge commercial success of the first movie, the producers were happy to greenlight not one but two sequels to ensure another trilogy of the character. Production began very quickly after the first part's release with a scheduled release of May 2504, which was pushed back to December of that year. The second film would focus on the same characters and include a Robocta invasion of Oikia, and a romantic subplot. There appeared a cameo of Mestelek, making many believe that he would be part of the plot of the third film in the trilogy. The film was simply named Angelica 2 and not given a subtitle to stop confusing with earlier films. Some hardcore fans may use the unused name, "Angelica and the Invasion of the Robocta" to distinguish it from others in the franchise.

Angelica 3 (2508)

Production of the third movie didn't commence directly after the second to allow the main actors, who had gained notoriety, to do other projects. Filming began in February 2506 with an aimed release of late 2507 but this was pushed back to early 2508. The plot was revolve around the introduction of a brand new villain: Interweb. She would be played by pop star Malenei who would release a song alongside the film about the character. There were many twists and turns, alongside some old villain cameos and was the first story to prominently use the internet. Contrary to fan theories of the time, Mestelek did not appear in the film. The film was simply named Angelica 3 and not given a subtitle to stop confusing with earlier films. Some hardcore fans may use the unused name, "Angelica and the Innovation of Interweb" to distinguish it from others in the franchise.

Angelica 4 (2509)

The fourth film began production during production of the third film without knowing. Around 10 minutes of screen-time cut from the third ultimately made it into the final release of the fourth movie. For many of the actors, there wasn't a break between productions of both films. The plot revolved around a re-imagining of Toxa, a return to power for Mortus, an attack by Mestelek and a new look into the Katerina Kay character with a new actress from the spin-off 2492 film. Former Angelica actor Louisa Thompson made a cameo as a new supporting character. Meanwhile, other new actress Luna Arsktar joined the cast. Huge betrayals, sacrifices and twists take place. The film was simply named Angelica 4 and not given a subtitle to stop confusing with earlier films. Some hardcore fans may use the unused name, "Angelica and the Teammates of Toxa" to distinguish it from others in the franchise. Melanei returned to do the soundtrack of the film but didn't appear as Interweb. These songs were released as one of her albums: "Angelica 4, The Sound of Konkakret"

cancelled Angelica 5 project

A fifth film began production in early 2510. However, Anna Martin was busy working on many other films so proper filming was delayed until mid 2511. Eventually, two other key cast members dropped out from the film and the movie production was postponed in November 2511. HKBC announced the film's official cancellation on 5 March 2512. Around 8 minutes of screen time was recorded and later added as deleted scenes onto the Special Edition re-release of the saga on DVD in 2514.

Sabrina Miller's Angelica

Ryan's film series (2513-present)

Following Angelica 5's cancellation in March 2512, HKBC considered bringing in a new director and crew to re-imagine Angelica once again. Production on this film series began in July 2512 where they cast Sabrina Miller as the new Angelica. DheviS Inc provided funding, but the series was largely produced by Ah-Netar. The first film became the first media of the franchise to be released simultaneously worldwide.

Agent Angelica I - The Cult of Mortus (2513)

The obsessive cult of Lijkgevaar, obsessed with their true religious god of Mortus, want to bring him back. They use deep and ancient magic to resurrect him and force him to serve under the cult and give them gifts and powers. Meanwhile, Angelica is introduced as an agent working for the White Rose Organisation. She is currently on a mission to retrieve special mineral Gavarium from a sister company in the mountains of Ceironia when she is recalled back to Empherias. Mortus realises that his full power has been restored and forcibly breaks out of the holding cell and murders the whole cult. Mortus slowly becomes crazier and crazier as his body starts decaying from the magic fading. Mortus stages a plot for the White Rose to investigate and lure Angelica, and the Gavarium, to him to repower himself and take over the world! Agent Angelica must save the day, alongside her friends Hugh, Marie, and Morris and the rest of the organisation.

Agent Angelica II - The Battle with Demonica (2515)

Testing new technology acquired from innovations and research of Gavarium, the White Rose Organisation has developed a system to clone foodstuffs to finally solve hunger. However, un-knowing to the scientists, after a short while, the food begins to rot from the inside out and begins corrupting bacteria deep inside of it. One of the scientists is secretly a spy, formerly part of the Cult of Mortus, and gifts Angelica a bunch of food and drinks - believing that the untested human trials would fail and kill her. It has no effects, at first, but she begins to feel much worse later on. The White Rose science team begin work on animal investigations and discover that lab rats that eat the cloned foods go insane and turn violent and manipulative. Meanwhile, Angelica begins having massive flaring skin problems, massive weight loss and they discover that Angelica may have taken the food. They use an experimental device to remove the virus but it creates a clone of Angelica drenched in blood turning her skin and clothes red. The clone, dubbed "Demonica" escapes, sets up a rival organisation, outfit change, goes undercover as Angelica, goes mad with power and tries to take over the world!

Critics appraised lead star Miller for her role playing both the hero and the villain.

Agent Angelica IV - The Trouble with Time (planned, 2519)

Bringing time travel back into the series, with them all destroyed at the end of the movie and a threat by Kroiners in the past to rewrite Oikan history. ; Agent Angelica and the Troubles of Time

Mestelek uses mind powers to summon the powers of Toxa, Mortus, Demonica and Interweb - alongside Robocta - to provide a huge threat to the world at large. ; Agent Angelica Against All

Lily Exavier's Angelica (future)

HKBC were in negotiations with new production studios to produce a new saga of Angelica movies with a new director. However, worrying about fatigue over stories, there was an idea to make a series of spin-off films about villains, their backstories, and some absences by Angelica herself. The idea was to introduce the villains, lightly tie the stories to Angelica proper, and then have another trilogy of Angelica main-line films following. Lily Exavier had been cast pre-emptively as Angelica to feature in cameos across the villain-based films and as a main star in upcoming Angelica focused films. These films were cancelled soon after when HKBC signed a contract with Ah-Netar to renew the licence. New screenwriters would decide on the plot.

A new trilogy was commissioned with all three set to feature up and coming star, Lily Exavier, as Angelica aswell as Demonica. The idea was that Demonica would appear in all three films as an overarching story, utilising other less used villains. Mortus would not appear in the series.
