The 2449 Empherias general election was held on 8 September 2449 to elect 600 members to the Empherias parliament. It was the first election held since it joined the High Kingdoms of Alaxia on 1 December 2448, following a referendum voting in favour in July 2448. Prime minister Lukas Knight held a snap election to re-affirm the nation's interests after the previous election in 2448 was very influenced by the pan-Alaxanism issue.

Prime minister Lukas Knight held a snap election to re-affirm the nation's interests after the previous election in 2448 was very influenced by the pan-Alaxanism issue.

The Labour party once again won a plurality, though reduced to just 187 seats, a decrease of 40 from the last election. The PSP gained 35 seats though, meaning the two combined socialist parties lost a net five seats and only swung 0.60pp to other parties. Sofia Hopkins achieving a swing to her party from Labour was a good sign as those who got their way following the result wanted to return to normality. The Liberal party increased from 147 to 155 seats, although this was still a disappointing result compared to others. The Lab–PSP government's new majority was 48, and Lukas Knight was re-elected prime minister.
Sofia Hopkins, who took over as prime minister from Katelyn Roberts, assured her party in January 2448 that no unification would be considered after years of rising pan-Alaxanism sentiment. This prompted Lukas Knight to make a famous speech and would trigger 30 PSP MPs to form their own spin off party known as the Alaxian Socialist Party (ASP), although it was known primarily as the Labour party. The following month, 77 more MPs defected to Labour, to hold a bloc of 105 seats. Knight and several other prominent politicians began their campaigning for a referendum on joining the High Kingdoms of Alaxia.

The Nationalists maintained their vote share nearly exactly, which presented itself as a static opposition to HKA statehood after many other parties had accepted the democratic mandate and new status quo. However, with only 12% of the vote and 75 out of 600 seats in parliament, it'd be hard to see them as a meaningful force unless the Liberals needed to rely on them for governance. The Greens also won over a million votes again, nearly 4%, but lost 7 seats to hit 24 seats total. Alliance, the new name for the Centre party, seemingly benefitted by the name change and affiliation with the Alliance group, winning a 50% increase in their popular vote, but this only materialised into 5 new seats to hit 17 total.
To prevent the left-wing from losing a vote of no confidence potentially being tabled by the Liberal party, Hopkins agreed to enter into coalition with Labour under the understanding an early election would be called in 2448 with both parties running. An electoral pact stated that whichever of the two socialist parties received a higher vote share, they would lead the coalition and become prime minister, and their position on the referendum would go forward.

The results saw the incumbent People's Socialist Party come third, reduced from a majority in the previous election to fewer than 100 seats, a decrease of 209. The Labour party gained 227 seats to become the largest party. Combined they held 325 seats total, a left-wing majority of 48.

The opposition Liberal party bled votes to the Nationalist party, which campaigned against integration to the HKA. The Liberals lost 67 seats to hit 147 seats, still coming second, but suffering their worst defeat since 2423 prior to it becoming a major party again. The Nationalists won 77 seats, an increase of 53 seats, with over 4 million votes. It was their best result in history, and it came fourth overall. The Green party also received over one million votes, but only gained six seats.

In the aftermath of the election, Lukas Knight became prime minister as the leader of the largest socialist party in the coalition He would hold a referendum on HKA statehood in July 2448.

The Labour party once again won a plurality, though reduced to just 187 seats, a decrease of 40 from the last election. The PSP gained 35 seats though, meaning the two combined socialist parties lost a net five seats and only swung 0.60pp to other parties. The Liberal party increased from 147 to 155 seats, although this was still a disappointing result compared to others.
