Prime Minister before election

Sofia Hopkins
People's Socialist Party of Empherias

Elected Prime Minister

Lukas Knight
Labour Party of Empherias

The 2449 Empherias general election was held on 8 September 2449 to elect 600 members to the Empherias parliament. It was the first election held since it joined the High Kingdoms of Alaxia on 1 December 2448, following a referendum voting in favour in July 2448. Prime minister Lukas Knight held a snap election to re-affirm the nation's interests after the previous election in 2448 was very influenced by the pan-Alaxanism issue.

The Labour party once again won a plurality, though reduced to just 187 seats, a decrease of 40 from the last election. The PSP gained 35 seats though, meaning the two combined socialist parties lost a net five seats and only swung 0.60pp to other parties. Sofia Hopkins achieving a swing to her party from Labour was a good sign as those who got their way following the result wanted to return to normality. The Liberal party increased from 147 to 155 seats, although this was still a disappointing result compared to others. The Lab–PSP government's new majority was 48, and Lukas Knight was re-elected prime minister.

The Nationalists maintained their vote share nearly exactly, which presented itself as a static opposition to HKA statehood after many other parties had accepted the democratic mandate and new status quo. However, with only 12% of the vote and 75 out of 600 seats in parliament, it'd be hard to see them as a meaningful force unless the Liberals needed to rely on them for governance. The Greens also won over a million votes again, nearly 4%, but lost 7 seats to hit 24 seats total. Alliance, the new name for the Centre party, seemingly benefitted by the name change and affiliation with the Alliance group, winning a 50% increase in their popular vote, but this only materialised into 5 new seats to hit 17 total.
