The 2453 Empherias general election was held on 7 September 2453 to elect 600 members to the Empherias parliament. Prime minister Lukas Knight would hold the general election one year earlier than needed, but in the usual month. It is understood that calling the election was not a partisan or government issue, but rather wanting to hold an election following the enactment of the new constitution of the High Kingdoms of Alaxia the previous year.
During the parliamentary term, PSP leader and former prime minister Sofia Hopkins had gained a lot of credibility after she helped negotiate and signed the new constitution, highlighting that she accepted the new geopolitical position of Empherias. Many Labour supporters who had moved away from the PSP because of their stance on pan-Alaxanism signalled that they now approved of Hopkins again and would be willing to formally unite. This led to a huge decrease for Labour's support in pre-election polling.
The People's Socialist Party became the largest party for the first time since 2445 with 233 seats, an increase of 100 from the last election. The Labour party fell 68 seats to only 119 seats total, and fell to third place. Combined, the PSP–Lab coalition held 352 seats, an increase of 32 seats from 320 seats previously, and a majority of 102. Excluding the swing from Labour to PSP, the swing from the Liberal party to the socialist parties was 4.66pp, seeing a nearly two million popular share increase.
The Nationalists lost around 500,000 votes, decreasing by 14 seats to 61 seats total– still their third best performance ever. The Green party increased their vote share by around 20%, gaining 5 seats to reach 29 seats total. The Alliance party won over a million votes, and increased their seat count from 17 to 21 total. Other minor parties all saw reductions in their vote count.
Sofia Hopkins was elected prime minister in her second non-consecutive term. She would eventually become the longest serving prime minister of the 25th century.
