Process[edit | edit source]

Candidate selection[edit | edit source]

The Nayrodan of each district delegate or support others' candidates for the elections. Electoral blocs are decided by the Nayrodan themselves. Candidates will then be asked to present the following information (all of it will be displayed in their card & district's bulletin unless otherwise stated):

  • their full name
  • their age
  • a photo
  • national ID with photo (not displayed)
  • their scholarship
  • their job and current company's identification (not displayed, checked against a list of whitelisted companies)
  • past organisations or party and details of tenure
  • current organisation or party
  • medical record (not displayed)

Furthermore, if any of the information provided doesn't match government resources or is insuficient, the candidate will be disqualified for the cycle. If it regards important information, they will be fined and banned from participating for the next 3 electoral cycles. For general crimes, prosecutions and other legal measures, they are taken in accord to their severity and type. For electoral crimes, such as electoral fraud, their right to candidacy is revoked until further notice.

The national ID may be used to verify much of the information provided by the candidate, including criminal record. Ex-felons are barred from candidacy. Providing a false ID, falsifying scholarship, falsifying nationality or place of origin, or attempting to join as surrogate of (paid by) or as a company director, CEO or owner under false pretences (whom are not allowed to join the nayrodan) will lead to the arrest and trial of the citizen for the valid legal charges, or the deportation of the same in case not a citizen of Sinkajja.

Debates happen two or three times depending on what the Electoral Committee finds necessary. After the end of the first debates, attendees would vote in a poll and half of the candidates would be dismissed based on its results. One to two hours after the end of the final debate (or more if deemed necessary), elections for the local council officially begin. The debates are heavily regulated with guidelines that prevent inflammatory or improper language, and any form of harassment (physical or spoken) to any group, race, or individual. Any candidate in breach will face immediate disqualification and depending on the seriousness could be prosecuted for whichever crime they may have committed. Furthermore, the debates require general respect towards your peers during the debate, and punishes loud voices and yelling with potential disqualification.

Local councils elect their own government (e.g the Leader of their Executive) and the members for the provincial councils. MLCs can be impeached at any point by a two-thirds majority of the LC, impugned by decision of the Vayran Nayroda or Provincial Nayroda or have their mandate rescinded by a three-fifths majority of the nayrodan from the district the MLC was elected in.

Until 2452, to be eligible to any government role, the candidate to the job had to first pass through a psychological test, this requirement was removed and replaced by checking the medical record against the latest international psychiatric index of the time until 2480, when the practice was phased out after a decade of continuous public outcry. The practice would briefly return in 2490 but was revoked again the following year.
