the Kingdom of Grensalbourg, commonly known as Grensalbourg, and formerly, the Diarchy of Empherias and Palakkinen in the State of Grensalbourg (2428-2449), is a city state in southeast Alaxia. It was established during the Treaty of Grensalbourg in 2428. Previously, all land belonging to Grensalbourg belonged to Palakkinen but the land was barren and empty. The treaty stipulated that a new city would be built there to act as a trade hub between Empherias and Palakkinen. As such, the nation is split between mostly Empherian and Palakkinen citizens, with a few native Grensalbourgish peoples, and some immigrants from other nations such as Hvede and Ahitereira.
The country's population is approximately 4 million, making it the 42nd largest in the world.
Leadership has evolved throughout the history of Grensalbourg. Originally a person was chosen from both Empherias and Palakkinen to run as a diarchy. In 2449, the former Queen of Empherias, Roxanne, took over permanently of Empherias' half of the government which would be passed onto her children. Palakkinen's role then gained more powers and evolved into an elected office in 2450, and then into the role of a Prime Minister in 2452. Elections would take place every 3 years, with elections being able to be recalled early. There would be 100 seats in Parliament elected with PR. The current Prime Minister, elected in 2491, is Alexander Pelkal, who is expected to run for re-election in the 2500 election for a fourth term.
Politics
In the diarchic system, the representatives from Empherias would take on the position of Prime Minister, while the representatives from Palakkinen would take on the position of President.
