This is a history of the Hveden Federation. It is sometimes broken into five major periods: the Lothyran period (2339–2360); the Honeymoon period (2360–2392); the Corruption period (2392–2440); the Transition period (2440–2495); and the Modern period (2495–present). Prior to the union, a very decentralised union ran primarily by Kusfeldic elite, known as the Vaiyan Union, controlled much of modern day Hvede.

Kingdom of Kusfeld (pre 2305)[edit | edit source]

The Kingdom of Kusfeld would expand across the northern steppe of southeast Alaxia across the medieval period, conquering major countries such as the Duchy of Nacrilia, and the Duchy of Dazulia. The kingdom had conquered several imperial possessions, such as the remote Kleinergette islands, several settlements and outposts to the south and east, and several partnered dukedoms in the continent's interior, for over two hundred years. Kusfeld had significant influence outside of their own country, with their royal family having control over several neighbouring countries in the regional, with a significant number of their elites speaking Kusfeldic, or believing in Hvalleism. Across the lands of present day Hvede, Kusfeldic became a lingua franca for those conducting trade.

Growing anti-Kusfeld sentiment grew across the late 2100s to 2200s with several major movements keeping the language and culture alive. Because of Kusfeldic decentralisation and feudalism, a lot of the Dazulian and Nacrilian land had not been oppressed harshly. Eventually, the government of Kusfeld became more nationalistic and wanted to spread Kusfeld ideas and support of the government across the government, especially after several rebellions in southern Kusfeld threatening the government. After the 2278 Hweins famine, the government ordered noble lords in Nacrilia and Dazulia to pay tax to the central government in a percentage of their grain supply, to which they did not oblige. King Freinz II, who had only been crowned in 2276, wanted a way to show his power. The 4th Duke of Orbogne and the 6th Duke of Greusorte were particularly upset with the Kusfeld government, being close to the border, and refused to give up anything as they had also been affected by the famine. The government of Kusfeld rallied several loyal dukes and ordered the invasion of disloyal dukes with the prize of their money being taken. This led to the Grain War lasting from 2279 to 2280, and saw over 10,000 deaths. In the aftermath of the war, Kusfeld strengthened it's power over the minorities within the nation by introducing several laws aimed at populating these areas with Kusfelds. This has resulted in several million Kusfeldic peoples living there in present day, with several majority Kusfeld cities in key areas.

King Freinz II died in 2282, and his brother Freinz III took over. Starting in 2283, Kusfeld began the process of Kusfeldification by purging important Dazulian nobles to assert dominance in the elite. At first, this was quietly seizing dukedoms if a duke had no true heir or had a conflict in inheritance. In others, dukes were framed as being disloyal and removed, and some just had their lands partitioned. In 2284, the Duke of Torrad and the Duke of Oselyia were targeted for their incredibly large chunks of land. They realised that the King was after their land and announced a secession and the proclamation of the Kingdom of Dazulia, with the Duke of Torrad being proclaimed King George I. This entity existed from 2284 until 2288, when it was invaded in the Torrad War. George I was deposed in early 2289, and his lands fully incorporated into Kusfeld, while the Duke of Oselyia was forced into exile in Matkalvina while his lands were partitioned and given to his eldest son, the Duke of East Oselyia.

The incorporation of the intermediary lands between Kusfeld and the Lavafields took place during the 2280s and 2290s and were rife with political issues. In Ghosjia, the Kusfeldic government fought the Ghosjian War between 2287 and 2292 but succeeded eventually in conquering the lands who were previously very rebellious. In Enseid, the government fought just one battle, the Battle of Balegerung, against the Duke of Prinscount in 2290. The incorporation of Begselia, Sletteria, and Slicia, went relatively smooth and were all incorporated by 2293, but several revolts take place such as the 2296 Begselia revolt, and the 2297 Slicia revolt, when native populations were upset with Kusfeld migration.

In 2302, Freinz III would die and be succeeded by his son Freinz IV. In 2305, Kusfeld signed the Vaiya Agreement, creating the Vaiyan Union. It would link all countries involved into a unified foreign policy and hierarchy, recognising Freinz IV as their true overlord, although with huge amounts of autonomy. Dazulia, Nacrilia, major portions of the lava corridor, all Eastern vaiyan colonies, and some other countries in the area would sign in 2305. By 2332, the majority of smaller independent states in the southwest, and southern areas, would sign.

The Vaiyan Union (2305–2339)[edit | edit source]

Freinz IV's main legacy was the signature of the Vaiya Agreement in 2305. By 2332, the majority of smaller independent states in Vaiya had signed up to the union.
