The Jimarian Armed Forces, or Jimarian Military, encompasses the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Keripulis of the Jimarian Republic. The President of Jimaria heads the armed forces as Chief of the Armed Forces.
History[edit | edit source]
Jimarian Expeditionary Force[edit | edit source]
In June, 2411, Jimarians serving in the Fazarian Army were reorganized into the Jimarian Expeditionary Force under the wishes of King Mazar. While these units were still subservient to high level Fazarian commanders, up to the level of General, the officers were Jimarian.
After June 2448, and the end of the Imperial Combine, the Jimarian Expeditionary Force was reorganized into the Jimarian Army, and the Jimarian Navy was formed as a separate entity to Fazar.
The Keripulis also traces its origins back to this period, being formed to suppress domestic violence during The Great War, especially in the state of Newel. Serving as a national police force, the Keripulis have been the model for most riot police forces around the world.
Jimarian Armed Forces[edit | edit source]
After Jimarian independence following the collapse of the Combine, the new nation began establishing a national military. In October, 2449, parliament passed the First Military Reform Act. The Act overhauled the Jimarian Army's organization, saw the adoption of new uniforms (which continue to inspire infantry kit into the present day), abolished conscription, and created the Jimarian Airforce. By the end of the year, Jimaria would also see its first fully domestically produced Heavy Tank, the Khorazk B-1. This would mark the beginning to a long held trend in Jimaria, to utilize primarily domestically produced military equipment in order to avoid dependence on foreign suppliers.
In
The Second Military Reform Act would be passed in December, 2459, creating a committee to draft a series of military modernization proposals. These proposals would be accepted in July, 2460, and see Jimaria become one of the first nations in the world to adopt widespread use of body armor. The reforms would also see the Askoy-60 Assault Rifle replace the Askoy-12 and Askoy-30 Rifles. In addition, the committee advised the creation of a modern Main Battle Tank, which would merge with proposed designs of the Khorazk B-2, the tank rolling into widespread production in 2462. The Committee would also produce several proposals for Naval reform, which would be adopted over the coming years, including the creation of nuclear powered Submarines and the phasing out of battleships. Most importantly though, the 2460 reforms saw the Jimarian Language made the only language used in the military, centralizing command and avoiding issues of miscommunication through translation.
The Third Military Reform Act, passed in February of 2470, saw the creation of another reform committee, this time tasked with seeing the modernization of Jimarian Aircraft and Armored Vehicles. The committee would lay out several requirements for a new Main Battle Tank, Armored Personnel Carrier, Self Propelled Howitzer and Radar Carrier, Transport Helicopter/Gunship, Strategic Bomber, and Air Superiority Fighter, all of which would enter service before or during 2478, though the fighter would end up being purchased from Ginsukyo; the FX-74, reclassified as the Z-75-ASF for Jimarian service.
The timing of the new equipment would prove extremely beneficial, as the Jimarian army would see its first overseas deployment since independence begin in July 2474, aiding Ginsukyan forces in Cralas; and Jimaria and Fazar entered the Thraxian Conflict in November 2479.
Nuclear Weapons[edit | edit source]
With fears of a Thraxian invasion of Avathraxia existing as long as the nation itself, Jimarian politicians, most notably Then-President Nuray Tsarok, believed a nuclear deterrent would be essential to national security. Research into the possibility of a bomb utilizing Uranium 233 began in January 2456. Five years later, Jimaria successfully tested its first nuclear bomb, ThUAW-1, in February 2461, announcing it to the world four months later in June. When the International Concord signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty in September of that year, Jimaria became the last nation to be legally allowed to possess nuclear weapons under international law.
