The Thraxian Conflict was a war between Thrax and a coalition of countries lasting from 2479 to 2481.

Background

Jimarian political theorist Nar Cerend stated that West Alaxia was a 'region of middling powers' during the late 2470s, unable to rival the superpowers surrounding them but still exerting influence over areas such as Qatesh. By 2400, Thraxia, Avathraxia, Urbaxia, Tuzal, and Eientai were under Fazarian rule; Ginsukyo were under Azyeri rule; and most of Atlantia was under the rule of Ruskvy.

During the Great War, Lothyran capitulated to Fazar and Azyeri, leading to the formation of the Dominion of Jimaria in 2410, which joined Avathraxia and Urbaxia with territories formerly under Lothyran rule. Fazar and Azyeri also agreed to the formation of the semi-independent Second Eulean Union in 2412 after increased pressure from independence movements. This union would combine Thrax, Ginsukyo, and eventually Atlantia, once it was liberated from Ruskvy during the war.

In 2439, after defeating a Ginsukyan insurgency that lasted over twenty years, the Euleans demanded Fazar cede Tuzal, Eientai, the North Atlantian islands, Avathraxia, and Pelegros to the union. Fazar refused these demands, was insulted, and believed Eulea had violated several agreements around the unification of Eulea, and soon launched an invasion of Eulea, supported by Azyeri. Eulea surrendered in 2441, and was back under full Fazarian rule as a state of the newly formed Imperial Combine. The combine was short lived however, and would be dissolved in 2448.

Initially, the relations between Fazar and its former holdings were close with a shared currency and monarch, however it would not take long for these connections to disappear. Within ten years, all countries in west Alaxia had adopted their own local currencies and ceased to recognise titles of nobility.

The 2474 Cralasian Nuclear Exchange would also create a massive back drop of political instability in countries such as Ceironia, where the incumbent High Marshal Tarasov would become wildly unpopular. On 8 June 2475, Mikhail Zaystev was elected as the new High Marshal of Ceironia. He succeeded Georgiy Tarasov's 41 year reign. He sought to distance the nation from Tarasov's regime by renaming the country to the Republic of Horyuxia. He also moved the capital, adopted a new flag, and re-organised the country under a federal government of 56 states. By November, trials of the previous govenrment were underway due to their involvement in the 2474 Cralasian Nuclear Exchange. Many, including Tarasov, were convicted of  treason and sentenced to life in prison. By 2476, Zaystev began to focus toward Alaxia.

In November, the nations of Thrax, Ginsukyo, Atlantia, Karkuss, and Runcuk, all withdrew from the Fazarian-led Democratic Mid-Sea Organisation to join the Horyuxian-led Global Economic and Defence Union. This mass departure was tied to largely Thraxian stoked fears that Fazar was planning to reassert domination over its former colonial territories in West Alaxia, and possibly attempt to re-establish the Imperial Combine all together. Karkuss left because of their historically bad relations with Fazar, notably after the Karkuss Oil Crisis of 2458–2459.

Horyuxia deployed soldiers to the new members of the GEDU as soon as possible to bolster their defences, which worried Jimarian President Arhok Ulgrim. Thraxia always claimed rightful ownership of Avathraxia, despite low support amongst the Avathraxian population to unite with them, which worried Jimarians and led to the deployment of ten Jimarian army regiments to stand permanent guard along the borders of both Thraxia and Ginsukyo. This raised tensions in the area.

Conflict

Throughout 2477–2479, global tensions continued to rise as Horyuxia escalated their ongoing cold war against Suton; civil wars in Heboi, Cralas, and Saki-Bussi. Under this climate, Zaystev deployed another 100,000 soldiers supported by thousands of armoured vehicles and hundreds of aircrafts into various parts of Thrax. Ulgrim responded by deploying over 140,000 Jimarian troops to the border. The two would build up their forces one after the other leading to the mobilisation of 200,000 Horyuxian troops and 200,000 Jimarian troops. Bassal Rusfo, the Prime Minister of Fazar, authorised 200,000 Fazarian soldiers to move to Jimaria and Tuzal.

In October 2479, Horyuxian forces overthrew the Thraxian government. In November, Fazarian forces moved to support the Horyuxians, primarily through air support, while Jimarian forces sought to establish a military occupation of all of Thrax within 60 km of the border.

Timeline

September, 2479 - Horyuxia sends 100,000 soldiers to Thrax, Jimaria responds by mobilizing 140,000, to which Horyuxia raises another 100,000, and Jimaria moves to 200,000. Fazar sends an allied 200,000.

October, 2479 - At the very end of the month, Horyuxian forces in Thrax begin a coup against the Thraxian government.

November, 2479 - Fazarian forces begin an invasion of Thrax. About two weeks later, Jimarian forces move to secure a 60 kilometer “Border Zone” to prevent the war spilling into Jimarian land. Shortly later still, Horyuxia explains they needed to invade because Thrax was developing biochemical, and possibly nuclear, weapons of mass destruction.

December, 2479 - Thraxia’s Capital, New Dinsmark, Falls to Horyuxian forces.

January, 2480 - The Thraxian City of New Farbanti falls to Horyuxian forces, though at heavy losses. Horyuxia begins a harsh crackdown on anti-war media and protests.

February, 2480 - Tongburg, in the South of Thraxia, falls to Horyuxian Forces despite a victory for the Thraxian Airforce in the skies above. Halwerp, in south-central Thraxia, falls to Horyuxian Forces. Dübenbon, in north-central Thraxia, is taken in a crushing Horyuxian victory, cutting the North of Thrax off from the Southern Peninsula.

March, 2480 - Bischoftal, in Northern Thrax, is just barely held against Horyuxian forces. Wijnsingen, located near the Jimarian border, falls to Horyuxian-Jimarian Forces.

April, 2480 - Schaffsoix, in Northern Thrax, falls to Horyuxian Forces.

May, 2480 - 10,000 Lunidor soldiers arrive in Thrax to protect their and the International City’s investigation into the Horyuxian WMD claims. Fazar secures Air superiority and begins a large-scale bombing campaign against Thraxian industry and military targets.

{Between January and June, 2480, a number of smaller engagements between Horyuxian and Thraxian forces result generally in Horyuxian victory and occupation of large parts of the country}

June, 2480 - Paramilitary groups and the Thraxian Army begin an offensive, focusing on Horyuxian and Fazarian forces. An international coalition of investigators are sent to Thrax to determine the truth in accusations of WMDs

July, 2480 - Thraxian Forces attempt to liberate Halwerp, but are driven back by the Horyuxian occupation force.

August, 2480 - Thraxian Forces liberate the capital, New Dinsmark, from Horyuxian occupation.

September, 2480 - Lunidorian military forces secure an area in Southern Thrax to shelter Lunidorian Nationals and Ethnic Lunidorians in Thrax

December, 2480 - Thrax releases information claiming that Horyuxia planted the WMDs Thraxia was accused of developing. Parts of the Horyuxian Government back this, while other parts deny Thraxian Claims

January, 2481 - It is suspected Jimarian strike teams begin to conduct classified covert operations against Thraxian paramilitary leadership. The Jimarian government denies these reports.

February, 2481 - Thraxian forces retake Zwingenmölsen, a port city in Southern Thrax with a small Horyuxian occupation force.

{After February, 2481, fighting dies down to mostly skirmishes}

June, 2481 - The International City / Luindor release their report that Thrax had no WMDs. Accusations of bribery call this conclusion into question. The International Concord Coalition Investigation deems there were some Biochemical weapons in Thrax, but it's inconclusive if they were planted or not.

July, 2481 - The International Concord Hearings determine, unanimously, that Horyuxia conducted an unjust invasion and levy sanctions against them. Horyuxian Troops withdraw from Thrax, and Fazarian troops follow.

September, 2482 - The Horyuxian Government is overthrown by a mob of protestors and the Ceironian Union restored. This coup can trace its origins back to the divisions in the country sparked by the war in Thrax.

December, 2482 - Jimarian Troops end their occupation, as the government deems the region has stabilized.

July, 2483 - Lunidorian forces, who have retained their occupation of a city in Thraxia (Called “Laa Neastrada”), are blockaded by the Thraxian Army and Navy, and eventually driven out.
