Lord Lewis John Walter Malkey, Baron of Nieuwbourg, the High Royal Marquess (born 15 May 2466), more commonly known as John Malkey, is an Empheri politician who served as Prime Minister of Empherias, within the High Kingdoms of Alaxia, between 11 October 2515 and 21 December 2519, winning the 2515 and 2518 general elections.
As a young boy, Malkey entered private education and entered the University of Rosetta. He left full time education in 2489 at age 23 and joined the Youth Wing of the People's Socialist Party. He was seen as a promising individual by a retiring Socialist member of parliament and was therefore nominated to replace him in the party list. He was not expected to be elected but when the PSP won a landslide majority in the 2491 general election, he entered as a backbench MP. He made several empowering speeches and was assigned the role as a parliamentary undersecretary to the Justice Department on 1 July 2492. After developing a great friendship with the Prime Minister Lucy King, he was appointed as one of her Chief Advisers in September 2493. Following the 2495 general election, he was moved to be the Chairman of the People's Socialist Party - a role he maintained until King's resignation on 11 August 2500. He remained as a backbench MP until he defected to the newly founded Labour party in 2501. As part of Lucy King's resignation honours, Malkey was knighted as Sir John Malkey.
He often spoke out in parliament on behalf of the Labour party and helped grow their campaign significantly. He was appointed as the Deputy Leader of the Labour party on 4 December 2502, a role he would maintain until 9 January 2504. He would resign his post from parliament in order to run for the 2504 presidential election of the High Kingdoms where he was nominated for the Red Bloq - the parent organisation of the Labour party of Empherias. He came second in nominations but ultimately lost. However, for his great statesmanship during the campaign, and ability to win over 49% of the vote, he was presented the lordship and title of the Baron of Nieuwbourg by the incoming President Madalena and incumbent Prime Minister William Turner. He would return to parliament in the 2506 general election where he was appointed the Shadow Minister of the Cabinet Office between then and 8 April 2512. After Alexander Murray resigned as party leader then, he endorsed his colleague Malkey to become the new Labour leader. He ultimately decided to run and then won the 2512 leadership election to become the Leader of the Labour party.
He would fight in four general elections. The first being 2513 where Labour won 185 seats, an increase of 12 from their previous result. The second being 2515 where Labour won 276 seats, an increase of 91 seats from their previous result and would see John Malkey become the prime minister under a minority government. The third being 2518 where Labour won 323 seats, an increase of 47 seats from their previous result, delivering a 46 seat majority for the party and a second term for Malkey as premier. The fourth being 2519 where Labour won 201 seats, a decrease of 122 seats from their previous result, seeing John Malkey leave office. During his time in office, he was awarded the most prestige honorary noble title, the High Royal Marquess, in 2518, due to his commanding election victories and lifetime contributions to politics.
