Knighthood in the High Kingdoms of Alaxia

A knighthood or peerage in the High Kingdoms of Alaxia is a type of noble title which may be hereditary or honorary.

Monarchical titles

The various types of monarchical titles vary in the histories of each High Kingdom through spelling, pronunciation, official designation, or rank.

In Empherias, the monarch was referred to as either the Rijkse, for a male monarch, or the Rijkdottir, for the female monarch. They are named as such to mean the son or daughter of the realm.

High Royal Marquess or Marquise

The honorary title of the High Royal Marquess for men, and the High Royal Marquise for women, is a title bestowed upon people who are excellent in their field and have had major positive impact on the nation or the world. Very few of these awards are given to people yearly and are the highest honorary title in the country.

Notable people to have had the title include former Prime Ministers of constituent nations, most former Presidents, influential statesmen, activists who led positive movements, and even high profile and distinguished military men, scientist, and professors. For instance, the former Prime Minister of Empherias, Lukas Knight, received the title for his effort in uniting Empherias with the greater High Kingdoms and handling it's integration very well.

Noble Royal Courtier

A noble royal courtier is an honorary title given to close advisers and friends of the monarch whom are favoured and given titles for their service. It is often an out of date title, last being given away in 2498. It is sometimes stylised as an acronym as NRC.

Peerages

All three tiers of the peerages grant the user the ability to go by Lord (name) for men, or Lady (name) for women. Furthermore, they may sometimes be referred to formally as 'the Right Honourable,' prior to their name.

Duke or Duchess

Of the three peerages given based on land ownership, the title of Duke for men, and Duchess for women, is the highest in nobility. It is not given as an honorary title and is passed down hereditarily. The amount of people given the title has sharply declined in the last two centuries as many either have lost their land ownership by selling it or have stopped using the title as much of it's prestige is viewed negatively today.

Viscount or Viscountess

Similarly to the Duke and Duchess, this peerage is the second highest and therefore second lowest of the three. The title is Viscount for men, and Viscountess or Countess for women. It is not given as an honorary title and is passed down hereditarily. The amount of people given the title has sharply declined in the last two centuries as many either have lost their land ownership by selling it or have stopped using the title as much of it's prestige is viewed negatively today.

Baron or Baroness

This is the lowest of the three peerages available. While it can sometimes be hereditary, it is extremely rare to see this. It is the lowest peerage in prestige as it is given as a life title that cannot be passed on as an honour - the highest honorary title. Therefore, those with the honorary title have no actual power in the lands they 'control'.

Standard Knighthood

A standard knighthood is granted to a person as an honorary title for their services to a particular industry. Many knighthoods are given out which grants it's person the ability to go by the title of Sir for men, and Misses for women (shortened to Mrs).

Minor peerages

Minor peerages do not give people the right to have a new title, but gives them the ability to have an honorary suffix, usually the acronym of the order of chivalry they received. These are as such

• KSA - Crescent for Services to Ahitereira
• KSE - Crescent for Services to Empherias
• KSK - Crescent for Services to Koresa
• KSP - Crescent for Services to Peryzium
• KSV - Crescent for Services to Kiavalar
• HK - High Crescent
• SK - Silver Crescent
• GK - Gold Crescent
• BK - Brass Crescent
• KSG - Crescent for Services to Grensalbourg

Official roles

All of the following roles are entitled to the honorary prefix, 'The Right Honourable,' excluding magisters and magistra.

Magister and Magistra

This title is given to those in the judiciary or law industry and has acclaimed significant accolades.

Major cabinet positions

For former and currently serving politicians, they shall receive the following as a suffix to their name:

• Former or serving Presidents, PCP
• Former or serving Vice-Presidents, PCVP
• Former or serving federal Premiers, or devolved Prime Ministers, PCPM
• Former or serving federal cabinet members, FPC
• Former or serving devolved major government positions such as cabinet appointments of speakers of the house, DPC
• Former or serving city and provincial mayors, LMY

Members of parliament

For currently serving political representatives, they shall receive the following as a suffix to their name:

• Member of the Parliament of Ahitereira, MAP, sometimes, MHP when stylised as Exteras
• Member of the Parliament of Empherias, MEP, sometimes MMP when stylised as Exteras
• Member of the Parliament of Koresa, MKK
• Member of the Parliament of Peryzium, MKP
• Member of the Parliament of Kiavalar, MVP
• Member of the House of Representatives of the High Kingdoms, MHR

For former members of parliament, they can choose to change their designation to these titles if they wish:

• Former Member of a devolved Parliament, PMP
• Former Member of the House of Representatives of the High Kingdoms, PMH

For members of the Grensalbourgish parliament, they have the right to use these titles:

• Member of the Parliament of Grensalbourg, MGP
• Member of the Senate of Grensalbourg, MGS

Council of the Elite (defunct)

For members of the defunct Council of the Elite in Empherias, they would receive MCE as a suffix to their name, standing for 'Member of the Council of the Elite', for life.

Military

Lord General

A lord general is a general that also has a lordship. It was traditionally used during the Kingdom of Empherias. The honorary prefix would be formatted as, 'The Right Honourable, Lord General' or 'The Right Honourable, Lady General'. Although the word Lord General is often used to reference them all, the word general is interchangeable with all major military ranks.
