The 2435 Empherias general election was held on 18 September 2435 to elect 600 members to the Empherias House of Parliament. It resulted in the opposition Liberal party winning a parliamentary majority of 8 seats. It was the seventh consecutive majority government elected and the first Liberal government since Wigfred Marksdottir left office in 2388 forty-seven years ago. It defeated the incumbent Socialist party who had been in office for twenty years, and the incumbent Edward Broedesmore had been in post for two years. Skylar Lawrence was elected as Prime Minister for her first term.

Turnout was 88.2% and the Liberals won 13.4 million votes to the Socialist's 10.2 million votes. All other parties won less than 1 million votes. Some political analysists insist that the defeat of Broedesmore prevented the Socialist party from trying older or male candidates for future elections. The next male to lead the Socialist party that was elected by the wider party would be Alistair Walker in 2486.

Background[edit | edit source]

Alice Rettels resigned in 2433. The 2433 Socialist leadership election saw Edward Broedesmore elected as Leader of the Socialists to be the Prime Minister amid increasing confidence in the Socialists that they could win any election.
