The West Alaxian War was a military conflict taking place within the West Alaxian region, between a coalition consisting of primarily Ceironia, Fazar, and Jimaria; and the West Alaxian United Front (WAUF) of Ginsukyo, Thraxia, and Atlantia.

Fighting began when Ginsukyo declared war on Fazar, initiating an invasion of the Fazarian exclave of Tuzal. This was followed shortly by a Ceironian declaration on Thrax and the WAUF on December the 22nd, which they allege was prompted by a Thraxian assault on their forces. The Thraxian government at the time maintained Ceironian forces attacked first. The Ceironian declaration was accompanied by a cyber warfare attack of unprecedented scale, knocking out telecommunications and damaging infrastructure across the WAUF.

The Jimarian declaration came a few days later in January, followed shortly by a Hvede missile strike against Ginsukyo. While initial Ceironian and Jimarian offensives were highly successful, Jimarian forces would become bogged down in a prolonged Siege of the Ginsukyoan city of Makise, the longest and deadliest engagement of the war.

The August 2522 Atlantian Air raids against Fazar, followed by the Thraxian bombing of the Ozge Stadium in Kessel, would draw Jimaria and Fazar into formal war with Thrax and Atlantia.

In July 2524, Atlantia, the last WAUF holdout, would surrender unconditionally, marking a formal end to the war. All former WAUF states were divided into occupation zones, between Ceironia, Fazar, Jimaria, and Sinkaja.

Background and Buildup

Aftermath of the 2479 War

The strategic Thraxian defeat in the 2479 war left much of the nation with a sense of resentment against their invaders, especially against Fazar, due to the Fazarian bombing campaign being responsible for the majority of the civilian deaths and economic damages. Thraxian-Democratic Mid Sea Organization (DMSO) relations remained especially tense, though Thraxian-Ceironian relations would see more shifting over time.

Rising Tensions

The 2507 Winter Storm, and ensuing recession, would mark the beginning of a serious rise in tensions, though issues would flare up from time to time before then. The Ceironian government was overthrown in a popular coup, and the global economic issues saw a general global increase in distrust between nations.

In April, 2514, Ginsukyo would propose a defensive pact to Atlantia, Thrax, and Sinkaja, which would become known as the West Alaxian United Front (WAUF), intended as a "temporary deterrent from foreign intervention within [the] region", largely in response to gains of Ceironian/ODA aligned Ruskvi in the ongoing Ciyugan Civil War. The WAUF would de facto replace the previous Confederation of Allied Nations (CAN), an alliance of Karkuss, Hvede, Lunidor, Thrax, Ginsukyo, and Atlantia, an alliance created in December of 2500 to oppose the influence of the Great Powers of Suton, Fazar, and Ceironia.

However the November 14th, 2514 bombing in the Fazarian capital of Kessel would see a real escalation. While the bombing was tied directly to the terrorist organization known as the "Skaven Liberation Army" (SLA), many within Fazar speculated Ladrosian or Thraxian government involvement, either through funding the terrorists, or using them as cover for a government operation. The bombing would force Fazarian Prime Minister Salgado to temporarily step down, his successor Prime Minister Hajar would agree to a summit with Thraxian delegates on the island of Pelegros, with the Thraxians hoping to "Liberalize" relations. The talks fell through, with no real progress made in improving overall Thraxian-Fazarian relations.

Tensions would remain high, as DMSO nations, particularly Jimaria and Fazar, sought to modernize and expand their military forces with newer and better equipment, in the event of war.

In May 2519, the Thraxian government would invite Lunidor to a summit in the city of Osterkkon, to discuss the threat of Fazar. The Thraxian Delegation focused on exaggerated statistics for the damage caused by Fazarian bombings during the Thraxian conflict, as well as reports from their military intelligence that Fazar was planning an invasion of Thrax in 2520. The Thraxian delegation attempted to persuade Lunidor to station military forces in Thrax, but Lunidor refused to commit.

In May of 2520, "due to diplomatic, strategic and national security reasons", the Sinkajan government withdrew from the WAUF and petitioned to join the DMSO, as war between the two alliances seemed increasingly inevitable.

In June of 2520, Jimarian President Lioth Sslath ordered the deployment of military units to the Thraxian and Ginsukyoan borders, fearing the WAUF rhetoric claiming a planned Fazarian Genocide was a ruse to justify a preemptive strike. While at the time the move was very controversial domestically, including among Sslath's own party, and is credited as one of the reasons he would lose the election a month later, the president is widely considered to have been proven correct in the end.

In July of 2520, the Thraxian government sent a desperate plea to the ODA, namely Ceironia, Ruskvi, Lunidor, and Nordleg. Declassified it reads as follows: "To the ODA members: An foreign enemy of the WAUF-ODA is going to start the invasion soon, we need as much volunteer support as possible as the window is running out and the failure to defend WAUF will result in millions of deaths by the enemy in regards to warcrimes, mass graves, forced labor camps, etc. We are losing. Please send the divisions as soon as possible. Thank you". Only the Ceironian government sent direct forces, the entire 1st Field Army of 10 Infantry Divisions, an additional 5 Mechanized Divisions, 20 Airforce Wings, and 10 Naval Groups. Lunidor offered material aid, though no other ODA member responded to the request.

In April of 2521, Ginsukyo would order mandatory conscription to begin in July, in preparation for the war. This would prompt Jimaria to raise three new Reserve Army Corps for defense in June, and withdraw the Jimarian forces which had long been stationed on military bases in the Cralas Corporate Republic back home. Tensions continued to ride high until finally, in December of 2521, Ginsukyoan soldiers crossed the border into Tuzal, an exclave long held by Fazar.

Thraxian Government Claim of Events

Before their occupation and dissolution, the Thraxian government maintained that Ceironian forces attacked theirs first, and that they had nothing to do with the Ozge Stadium Bombing. Obviously, these claims are disputed by the coalition nations, who maintain the Thraxian government launched the attacks in support of their Ginsukyoan and Atlantian allies.
