Ahitereira (Ahitereiran: ahiteTeiTa [ahitɛɾei'ɾa]) officially the High Kingdom of Ahitereira (Ahitereiran: ahiteTeiTa da altos ceide[ahitereira da altoʃ t͡ʃeide]), is a province of the greater High Kingdoms of Alaxia since 2447, whose delimited by the Fazarian Strip, the Magma Fields, and the Kloresan Mountains. Ahitereira is located in the East of the Kloresan Gulf in East Alaxia. The capital of Ahitereira, the city of Inysta, is the largest city in the High Kingdoms of Alaxia. The capital of the High Kingdoms, Esperiy, is also located in Ahitereira. The High Kingdom covers a total area of 2,069,217.45 km2 (798,929.32 sq mi), sharing a border with Fazar, Empherias, Koresa and Hvede. With around 177 million inhabitants, it is the second-most populous Kingdom in the High Kingdoms of Alaxia.

Ahitereira's geography is predominantly characterized by flat, arable land, sandy coasts, low elevation, and a humid subtropical climate. Ahitereira, while a singular Kingdom, is divided into 15 provinces, of which display an amount of autonomy, responding to Federal and Regional administration when required.

Etymology[edit | edit source]

As the Ancient Anternians occupied the provinces of Mishalik, Bartenik and Mishak, present-day Manar, Lagoa and Inişta respectively, they would label these lands as Ahi Ternia ("Foreign Land"). Later being adopted to refer to the whole region, being shortened into "Ahiteria" becoming the country's name for centuries, until the early 2300s. Due to some misunderstanding of the early Anternian script, Ahitereiran scholars in the 2300s would claim the original name wasn't "Ahi Ternia" but rather "Ahi Tereina", as a result claiming the correct evolution of the name was "Ahitereira", which would become the country's name.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Ahitereira is a relatively small country, near the northern centre of Eastern Alaxia. By land area, Ahitereira composes 2,069,217.45 km2, which makes it the 22nd largest country in the world by surface area alone. Its surface morphology is primarily dominated by low-lying grasslands, bound on the south by the River Victorian and the Triard Plateau, to the east by the Grensalbourg Volcanic Field, the River Ruralic, and to the west by the rivers Manar and Mapé. Ahitereira is also nestled in-between the Eastern Alaxian Sea to the south and the Su-Devnik Sea to the north. The hydrology of Ahitereira is dominated in part by Lake Lagoa which is a member of the larger Lagoa Canal network. The country has a diverse collection of rivers, most prominently the River Kenton which is the largest single river in Ahitereira.

Climate[edit | edit source]

Ahitereira is dominated by a mild, humid subtropical climate throughout its lowlands and a subtropical highland climate in much of its highland regions. Summers here are hot and wet, while winters are mild, frostless and dry.

History[edit | edit source]

Prehistory (Before 1st Century XY)[edit | edit source]

The region of present-day Ahitereira was first inhabited by Dwarves, who roamed the southern coast. These were subsistence societies and although they did not establish prosperous settlements, they did form organized societies. The largest early settlements were in the Vitorian peninsula. These early settlements experimented with domestication of herding animals, the raising of some cereal crops and fluvial or marine fishing.

In -1000, Ahitereira would see various waves of humans invading the region and occupying it, forming the first Kloresan groups, leading to waves of Dwarven exodus to Empherias, which to this day still inhabit the country as a predominant minority. The first Kloresan peoples, while not having a written language, have archeological reports that indicate the existence of a numeral and counting system.

Anternian reports on the Kloresans, alongside the various interpretations of archeological remains in the region, indicate that the native Kloresan societies were matriarchal and extremely feudal, with a cult of fertility being taken extremely seriously. The systems of governance in the region had strong hierarchies with a powerful military and religious aristocracy. The Kloresan faith was able to also remain consistent due to the constant communication between chiefs from each village.

The first written descriptions of the inhabitants of the Vitorian peninsula, specifically the Faloghianos of Northern Vitoria, by Anternian strategist and historian Veriko Larata, referred to them as: "Colorful savages who have their women rule due to sheer logistical laziness".

While there were other tribes, the Faloghianos society was the most powerful, being in a powerful geographical position economically and agriculturally, fittingly leading them to also be the most cultural influential in the prehistory of Ahitereira. To this day, a small minority of Faloghianos descendants still lives in the city of Vitoria.

Anternian Empire and Kloresan migrations (1st-11th Century)[edit | edit source]

Around 80, Anternians from Manora founded the colony of Vitoria, on the Vitorian peninsula on the Kloresan gulf. This makes it Ahitereira's oldest city. The Kloresan Empire would emerge during this period, becoming vast in size, ranging from Vereda to modern Koresa. Kloresa throughout its whole existence engaged in a process of "civilizing their neighbors", believing they were superior to other cultures, and that by conquering them they were merely doing them a favor. This belief had been brought from Anternia, which practiced the same. Many cities would be founded through the 1st and 2nd century, including Kerença, which would become the capital of the Empire by the 3rd Century. The native Sisinic and Veredan people would end up mixing with the Kloresans, learning Anternian speech and adopting their religion.

In 225, the Anternian legions would move towards Mishalik as to found a new colony, they would be met with the coalition of Theamtro, Kellvik and Mishalik, which had started to fear the growth of the Anternian empire, and had been preparing for such an attack. Durbinia would eventually join the coalition as to protect their trading ports in the Anternian coast, and as to possibly even obtain further influence in the region, although this would prove costly to Durbinia, as they had just left a war against the Kloresan empire, and as such were severely weakened. Anternia would end up settling for peace with Theamtro and Kellvik, annexing the whole of Mishalik and the Durbinian ports.

In 343, the Anternian Empire, as a result of the previous war Anternian emperor Julio would create three provinces, Mishalik, Bartenik and Mishak (Present-day Manar, Lagoacita and Inysta respectively). The Anternians would name the region occupied by these three provinces Ahi Ternia ("Foreign Land").

  Anternian Empire
  Anternianized Countries

By 456, Empress Martina would be selected by the plebian council, she would foresee initial plans for the integration of Ahi Ternia, being instrumental for the socioeconomic development of the region, building many of its roads and pathways and implementing Anternian as a language of governance throughout the whole region. The Delvik population would also mix with the Anternians, which would adopt the Anternian language and religion which ended up merging with the local faith into a syncretism. Many new cities would be founded during this era of governance, such as Lagoacita and Inysta, they would be built in the Anternian style, with temples and forums being prevalent. Martina would implement a system of trade with the neighboring state of Kentronik that would force its various nobles and clergymen to learn the language, and eventually forcing its expansion to its nobility, economically strong-arming it into Anterniazing. Throughout the coming decades, the various emperors would replicate this towards the northern Devnik kingdoms, and the southern Kloresan nations.

The late 10th century would be marked by the actions of Emperor Pratik, the first and only Kentronik emperor. Pratik was fluent in Anternian and practiced the Luceroanist religion, much like the Anternian upper-class, but unlike them, Pratik envisioned a more loose system of governance for Anternia, providing each provincial governor the capability to call and field an army without requesting the empire to do so. This policy would cause the neighboring states of Bartenik and Mishak, both provinces of the Empire, to incite war against each other, as they had disagreed on border restrictions and fees for their traders.

Anternian Provinces (Later would become province-states)

In 1038, the capital would be successfully raided by Governor Harto Leroa with aid from Azarian mercenaries, resulting in the Battle of Lucero. Leroa would declare himself emperor, and from here the other provinces of Anternia would declare him unjust and secede from the empire. Harto would try and reunite the empire through force, but this would prove unpopular as he would be usurped by the Azarian mercenaries he had hired, who would declare the Kingdom of Lucero. The province governors would as a result declare themselves the Kings or Emperors of their own province-states, as they had effectively been since Pratik's policy had taken effect.

Fractured Kingdoms (12th–14th Century)[edit | edit source]

The leaders of the province-states in Ahi Ternia (Mishalik, Grenard and Mishak) chose to model their government on the neighboring Kentronik, implementing a feudalistic system with them at the helm of the government, having their many powerful guilds maintain and even be offered further territory in hopes of gaining their favour and recognition. Bokanism would become a relevant minority religion by this time, specially in the city of Inysta.

Atomagna's system would borrow a lot from the Ahi Ternian system, primarily in its use of a main ruling family, but it would be embedded with a bigger focus in Anternian tradition and forms of governance, trying to maintain a somewhat central form of governance, akin to early Anternia empire. The other province-states in core Anternia, would move to a system similar to the Anternian Republic, having their own senates and creating their own subdivisions.

Frezarian Era (15th–16th Century)[edit | edit source]

The King of Kentronik, King Frezar, was seen badly by his peers, due to his fundamental structural changes to the Royal Palace's system of governance. Before Frezar, the King's advisory consisted of the Royal Advisory, filled uniquely with hereditary roles, with each advisor being taught on how to advise by the generation before. Frezar being raised in an academic environment as requested by his mother, a priest, noticed that the lack of outside input had led to "many of the errors of the past being repeated time and time again", consequently creating the Land's Advisory, which consisted of trusted academics and friends of Frezar that he deemed qualified. In that event, the politics of Frezar would mark a turning point in the region's politics, Lurteș Rai, a prominent advisor, would claim this was a calculated power play his mother, a powerful cleric.

Nonetheless, Frezar's rule would be influential to the development of Kentronik, such as in the creation of the Kentronik Tax Code, one of the earliest Tax Codes of its kind in the planet. Consisting in a vast guidelines imposed to the before non-regulated noble tax collection. These guidelines had laid out a vast groundwork for the collection itself, and had increased the amount of book work needed to verify that the nobles weren't abusing the system. Amongst nobles, the change of imposing lesser taxes upon the old, the crippled and children, was prominently controversial, as it also obligated them to account for the existence of such types of people in their fiefdom, inadvertently creating a proto-census system. Frezar had hoped these guidelines would lead to less taxes being avoided but also to them being fairer, consequently helping the economy.

Throughout the early 15th century, the fiefs of the Mishak Kingdom would suffer through various financial troubles, due to some bad agricultural practices imposed by the royals. Meanwhile, Kentronik kept increasing its output and economic power. By 1480, the economic growth in the country, allowed Frezar to impose a marriage with the Queen of Mishak, this way incorporating the Mishak Kingdom into Kentronik. Frezar would change the capital of the Kingdom to the more prestigious, and populous Inysta, in turn signaling his intent of uniting all of Anternia.

The Atomagnan monarchy quickly saw the personal union as an attack, taking Frezar's claims as a threat, further aggravated when Kentronik nobles not only celebrated the marriage with festivals but also then quickly moved their army east, through Mishalik, and towards the neighboring Grenard. The union then established would implement a new system of royal coastal protection, growing a larger and stronger fleet, constructing various harbors and ports, and establishing piracy protection services as a way to cut the growing piracy crisis of the 1400s. This expansion would be the foundations for the vast network of the Kentronik Merchant Guilds, as they would also receive protections from "excessive taxation" as part of the Kentronik Tax Code. These merchant guilds would enable the various Kentronik merchants to access international markets as well, bolstering the value of Kentronik goods in the Eastern Sea.

Nearing the late 14th Century, three different states, of three different religions, wanted to unite Anternia. Fazar, a non-Anternian successor state, with the objective of legitimizing Bokanism in East Alaxia and spreading the faith; Kentronik, an Anternian successor state, with the Luceroanist belief of the empire with the objective of bringing back the old powers; and Atomagna, an Anternian successor state, in the process of converting themselves to the Karkussian Vixoumaran religion.

Atomagna had expanded its borders to almost double its size, becoming another contender to unite the Anternian empire. The King of Atomagna Martino VI had just converted to the Vixoumaran religion, as a result receiving a theo-ideological wave that had changed its political systems, much like Frezar's Land's Advisory had restructured Kentronik's. Martino VI's conversion, had reportedly made him want to legitimize the religion by reclaiming the Anternian empire, although claims of this differ depending by the account, with Fazarian historians claiming his conquest was fueled by greed and the new religion was merely an excuse.

In 1489, Frezar would order various meetings with his advisors and various prominent nobles, the Grenard Conferences, to concoct a plan to expand westward, this led to the conscription of 100k soldiers, with the gathering of various trebuchets, cavalry and vast amounts of grain, all for the purpose of annexing the lands of Grenard. By 1501, Kentronik officially invaded Grenard, in the eponymously named War of Grenard. The people of Grenard were given small temporary tax rebates to help the assimilation process go smoothly, while nobles of the land were forced to either swear fealty of be stripped of lands. The Larte family would be prominent in its protest of the Kentronik occupation, as a result they would be publicly executed in the capital, leading to the Larte rebellion.

Oden I of Fjaora would offer to buy part of the Çuestan coast by 1514, to which Frezar would accept, in what he reported as "a diplomatic play supplanted by a need for funds for further campaigns in the west".

Amid 1516, Frezar would once again mobilize its forces to invade the neighboring western state of Mishalik, with few resistance, Kentronik would easily capitulate Mishalik incorporating them into their country.

As tensions increased between Atomagna and Kentronik, Kentronik would join in a coalition with Fazar to invade Atomagna. The Kentronik would order a large military force to march towards the eastern border of Atomagna and together with the Fazarian invasion of the western border won the war in the matter of a singular year. The newly acquired lands were quickly put on the same process of assimilation put in the province of Grenard. The desecration of Atomagnese monuments being also common, as many were often sold for little to no money. In a surprising turn of events, the Kentronik took the title that Atomagna was once trying to gather, and officially embraced the Anternian Empire title. As in noble schools the idea of what was it to be Anternian continue to be spread all over the nation, and the once Victory Celebrations, became the Anternian Celebrations.

Modern Anternianization (17th - 19th Century)[edit | edit source]

Soon after the end of the war, Frezar would declare Kentronik as the New Anternian Empire, leading to vast parades lead by the King to spread the new "National Movement", while in reality it would be known has a vast purge and regulatory enforcement to ensure that the various nobles, specially the recently conquered, would respect the power of the King. This such occasion lead to various protests by the Nobles in which they requested their old rights back, but they mostly failed. In a confusing turn of events, Frezar would take the name of Atomagna for the Kingdom rather than Anternia, many historians argue whether or not this was an error of translation or not, as Atomagna and Anternia were often used in interchangeable manner.

These events lead to a resurgence in literature for the Kentronik scholars, as they adopted more Atomagnian cultural pieces, such as the book Road To Loss which became synonymous with the time period.

The Official Declaration of the New Anternian Empire[edit | edit source]

The first diplomat letter confirming the declaration of the Anternian Empire was only first seen 5 years later after the National Movement had started. Frezar would declare himself the as the true Anternian Emperor, and as the story of Road to Loss became bigger and bigger, ideas of nationalism and glory came to Kentronik.

Bokanism[edit | edit source]

As Bokanism grew more and more in the recently conquered lands of Atomagna, the Emperor would eventually convert to it and would also declare the nation Bokanist. This would lead to a vast purge of non-bokanist nobles, and them being replaced with complacent ones. As the majority of the population was already Bokanist due to Fazarian influence, the Emperor's conversion into it, was seen favourably by most besides the conservative Kentronik elite.

The Emperor would also use the recent conversion to Bokanism to further centralise, and impose further taxes. This would lead to the appointing of various governors and the creation of new titles in order to ensure loyalty in the already existing nobles, with the use of bribery included.
